WILDFLOWERS is a single strand cotton and is dyed in the same colors as Watercolors. It is between a #8 & #12 pearl cotton in weight. While Watercolors has a silky sheen, WILDFLOWERS looks more like a fine wool and has a matte look when stitched. WILDFLOWERS may be used in the bobbin, for couching, in overlocker loopers or for hand embroidery. Even though the same dye formulas are used on both Watercolors & Wildflowers, the two cottons vary enough & the same color on both threads may not look exactly alike. Interesting effects can be achieved by using both threads in the same piece in the same color.

                                      More About Caron Threads

CARON USES FIBER REACTIVE DYES. The dye molecule actually becomes part of the fiber molecule. The result is a product which is extremely wash fast, lightfast & color fast to perspiration and dry cleaning.

FIBER REACTIVE DYES ARE PERMANENT , however half the dye reacts with water in the dying process and must be removed to prevent "bleeding" by proper & thorough rinsing. Although Caron is very careful about this, very occasionally a red or dark color will bleed if exposed to moisture & heat during blocking.

IT ALWAYS BEST TO TEST YOUR THREADS BEFORE STITCHING. This applies to ANY threads you use for your embroidery. Moisten a length of thread and place on a paper towel. If the finished embroidery is to be blocked with a steam iron, briefly add heat from an iron. If any color does come out, agitate the skein of yarn in very hot soapy water until all excess color is removed. Ivory or Palmolive are the only detergents we recommend. DO NOT use lemon scented detergent.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY STITCHED YOUR PIECE and any bleeding occurs, while still wet, immediately rinse and agitate your embroidery in a large sink of cool to lukewarm water (no soap) several times until all excess color is gone. DO NOT ADD vinegar, salt or any other substance to the water.

THIS IS THE WAY TO TACKLE ANY BLEEDING be it in your embroidery, a piece of fabric or ready made garment. However, you MUST NOT let the piece dry. Once dry, the dye is set and no amount of rinsing will remove it.

YOU MAY WASH YOUR EMBROIDERY AFTER IT HAS BEEN STITCHED . All of your embroidery can be wet blocked if necessary, provided any other materials you have used are also permanent. If you have worked your piece in cottons and your ground fabric is washable, you may wash your embroidery. If the ground fabric and any other threads you have used can withstand machine washing, it is fine for Watercolours and Wildflowers.

NEVER USE CHLORINE BLEACH. It will harm fiber reactive dyes.

A NEW USE Some very clever people have worked out how to do ribbon embroidery on the sewing machine. Watercolors & Waterlilies could be used in the same way as silk ribbon to simulate Brazilian embroidery. Wildflowers could be used to do bullion stitch on the machine.
